About the Item
This is fabulous dining set comprising an antique George III style triple pedestal dining table Circa 1920 in date, and a superb Vintage set of fourteen Chippendale style dining chairs, mid 20th Century in date
The rounded cornered table top is made from stunning flame mahogany and is raised on three "canon barrel" turned columns. The centre one on a quadruple swept reeded sabre leg base and the other two on triple swept reeded sabre leg bases, all terminating in brass caps and castors.
The table has two leaves which can be added or removed as required to suit the
occasion which makes it a versatile and it can comfortably seat up to eighteen people.
The beautiful Vintage set of fourteen solid mahogany Chippendale Revival dining chairs, date from the mid 20th Century.
They have been crafted from hand carved solid flame mahogany each with a yoke shaped top rail, a pierced and carved splat back with stuffover seat and upholstered in green leather. The chairs are elegantly raised on square legs united by a cross stretcher.
The chairs are a rich mahogany colour with a striking grain and good patina.
THE BOTANICAL NAME FOR THE MAHOGANY THIS ITEM IS MADE OF IS SWIETENIA MACROPHYLLA AND THIS TYPE OF MAHOGANY IS NOT SUBJECT TO CITES REGULATION.
Condition:
In excellent condition the table having been beautifully cleaned, polished and waxed and the chairs polished and reupholstered in our workshops, please see photos for confirmation.

Flame Mahogany
Thomas Sheraton - 18th century furniture designer, once characterized mahogany as "best suited to furniture where strength is demanded as well as a wood that works up easily, has a beautiful figure and polishes so well that it is an ornament to any room in which it may be placed." Matching his words to his work, Sheraton designed much mahogany furniture. The qualities that impressed Sheraton are particularly evident in a distinctive pattern of wood called "flame mahogany."
The flame figure in the wood is revealed by slicing through the face of the branch at the point where it joins another element of the tree.
