Very Rare Antique Biedermeier Walnut Architect's Drawing Table, Commode or Chest

About the Item

Extraordinary walnut veneered architects drawing table and chest of drawers into one. This amazing quality and excellent condition chest and drawing table was handcrafted in the 19th century. In all our years of selling rare antiques we have never before seen this combination of drawing table and chest into one. And the beauty is that as long as it is not being used as a drawing table, no one will even know how special this piece is. That is what truly makes this a hidden treasure and it is this rare quality/feature that especially designers and architects will be able to appreciate more than most. With its adjustable, slanted surfaces you can create the perfect angle and surface to do your work/hobby whilst standing. The pop-up drawing table is manually adjustable in multi height positions as shown in the images and also at ten different increments so it can be used for multiple functions such as a desk, a drafting table, a folio stand or as a standing desk. The walnut veneer that was used has some stunning natural patterns and this 170 year old antique has the most amazing patina. For it to be in such amazing condition is like an ode to its maker. Besides being highly practical and of great quality this antique also is of immense aesthetic beauty. Its rare sight and beauty will always draw people's attention and it also makes a great talking piece. If you like this rare antique as much as we do then you will love our price. Especially when taken into account that perfect packing (in a custom made crate) and worldwide delivery from our store to your door in just 4 to 6 workdays are complimentary. Height x width x depth when closed: 31 x 35.6 x 23 inches. Height as in some of our images: 47.5 inches. 18th C. English Architect's Table w/Unique Legs, Expanding Top, & Candle Shelves
Located in Atlanta, GA
An English expandable architect's table with candle stands from the 18th century. This antique table from England would have originally been used as an architects work desk, complete with a pair of small shelves that pull out from either side of that table, that would have supported candles for lighting. The rectangular-shaped top rests atop an apron that houses a faux-drawer with single brass handle, that when pulled, reveals an extension to the table. This slide out wood top is lined with leather, creating an additional writing pad surface. The leather top an also be slid back under the main top, keep legs out, granting access to storage within (see images for more details on this). Carved bracket accents adorn the underside of the skirt against each of the squared outer legs, which partially wrap the outer edges of the nicely-turned inner legs (which are slightly longer and terminate into petite caster feet). Needless to say, this piece has very interesting legs! A curvy x-style stretcher bar braces the legs under the bottom center for additional support. Note that the pull out leather top adds an additional 28" x 13" table top work space, with a floor clearance underneath of 24". This 18th century English architect's table, with expanding leather writing top...
