This is a grand antique estate pedestal desk. An English, quality mahogany and satinwood roll-top secretaire desk, dating to the mid Victorian period, circa 1860. A desk of superior craftsmanship and proportion, with strong country estate appeal Displaying a desirable aged patina and in good original order Select stocks show fine grain interest and deep caramel hues throughout Striking roll-top opens to reveal satinwood drawer fascia of warm caramel colour Delightful pull-forward writing surface with an inset lock — in working order, key present Suite of six drawers with a seven compartment gallery to centre, over faux drawer fronts Trio of tooled and embossed leather skivers, the outer pair opening to show pen compartments Central skiver hosting a bracket to rear for angle adjustment Stout pedestals offering a trio of drawers with inset brass-lined locks — keys present Generous kneehole height of 71cm (28") affords comfortable use Finished to the rear, the desk ideal for central room placement Standing upon continuous plinth feet and riding upon sets of concealed castors This is an impressive and bold antique estate pedestal desk, graced with excellence in craftsmanship and form.
