Unique early 1900s, solid nutwood, Gothic Revival writing table.
If you are a collector of unique, great looking and practical to use Gothic antiques then this striking desk could be flying your way soon. This antique writing table has the most beautiful top that we have ever seen on a Gothic desk. The top is actually inlaid with a stunning burl nutwood and to make it even more special, the extra 'slides' on the sides (the ones that can make this desk more than 8.5 feet wide) have been inlaid with the exact same burl 'star pattern'. We feel this desk must have always been used with a glass top, because we have also never seen an unrestored desk of this age with a mint desk top. Just below the top are three deep and perfect sliding, nutwood and oak drawers with typical Gothic design handles made of cast iron. The overal Gothic design and the many Gothic carvings are what make this desk stand out from anything we ever saw. First of all, this is a unique, open design and for it to have been made of solid nutwood makes it extra costly and desirable. It is also the reason why it has such a warm patina. The multiple sculptures in this Gothic desk really take it to the next level. The church windows all around the table top, the four medieval lady sculptures on top of the Gothic church columns, the clergyman holding the holy scriptures, the chimeras above them, the semi-quatrefoil symbols in the base, the carvings on the inside of the legs on either side, we have never seen this many unique, detailed and meaningful Gothic carvings in one desk. Because of its size and design this stunning Gothic desk could also be used as a unique refectory table. By the way, in image 14 you can see the back of this desk and as you can see, apart from the drawers, it is identical to the front. Whether you will use this desk in your home office or as a large side table in an even larger room or entrance, this predominantly solid nutwood Gothic antique will never fail to impress you or anyone visiting.
