17th C. Provencal Hand Carved Antique Side Table Walnut Desk Drawers Farm LA CA . Beautiful 17th into 18th century Provençal Continental table in walnut and Fruitwood with center drawers. These tables were used in the Mas and Manoir . It's the perfect addition to a Provincial design , as a side table, between two chairs, to have a chinoiserie piece of art on top . Or as a small bureau desk . End table, farm table, console , game table, serving table, or a sofa table.
Baluster legs joined by a stretcher, standing on original turned bun feet. It's not an oak somber table, the walnut and fruitwood gives it much charm. It could be perfect for a side table, between two chairs. In the bedroom it could work as a single nightstand, to host a table lamp or decorative elements. The simple lines makes it versatile and a perfect fit in any room, living room, entryway , bedroom or kitchen. As you can see the construction of the table. Made of solid wood parts, showing the beauty of the grains and knots. The details with the construction on the side of the Drawers fitting together in grid and dove tail. Same goes with the table itself built with pegs and fitted together with Mortise holes and tenon (tongue) joints. Same goes for the Bun feet squashed and flattened ball at the bottom Typical of the 17th into late 17th Century , and the less than fluid design that concentrated on the pure functionality of the piece , rather than trying to exhibit the beauty, and that's typical late 17th and very early 18th Century.
Over the centuries you could see the age and use apparent in the detailed pictures from the fadings and the stainings of the wood , the natural shrinkage and cracks of the wood , chips scuffs etc ... the Carving with freehand execution style as seen in the pictures as well
