18th Century Baroque Swedish Oak Library Table Console

About the Item

This handsome baroque oak library table with one drawer has heavily turned legs, scalloped skirt and lower stretchers. The original painted finish of the base is worn and distressed; the aged patina has softened the brick red/salmon colored finish and is worn down to the natural oak on much of the stretcher base. The top is all natural oak with nicks, gouges, cracks and stains reflecting generations of use. All scratches, cracks, dings, and age related separation (seen in drawer bottom) are reflective of age and do not detract from the appeal nor function of this heavy oak table. Please refer to professional photos for clear understanding of color, condition, and details; photo lighting, individual monitor display and home lighting all impact how item is viewed. Photos are part of item description, please ask questions or request additional photos of specific areas if needed. Baroque Gilt Wood Console Table, Southern Germany 18th Century
Located in Belmont, MA
This original 18th century Baroque console table stands out for its finely carved gilt wood details. It is the perfect little eye catcher for a smaller entryway. If you are looking for an eclectic mix of antique and new, you could easily add a contemporary painting or mirror above it, This exquisite little console table derives from Southern Germany. It shows the typical features of the 17th-18th century baroque design vocabulary. Consequently acanthus leaves and scrollwork embellish its otherwise symmetrical structure. It comes in original condition with the expected wear and tear and some retouches from earlier restorations and measures H 29.53 x W 25.99 x D 13.78 inches (H 75 cm x W 66 cm x D 35 cm). The Baroque style was adopted in the Low Countries in the 1620s and extended late into the 17th century, when Germany and England began to develop it. In southern Germany the French influence on furniture design was more prominent than in the western or northern parts, where Dutch and English styles were predominant. The big centers for the production of south German Baroque furniture...
