About the Item
Stunning vintage Willy Rizzo coffee table in burl walnut veneer. A brass dry bar in the middle and brass detailed corners.
Designed by Willy Rizzo and manufactured by Mario Sabot, Italy 1972 l Aèra-lab Belgium
The table originally was retailed by the Italian company Mario Sabot from 1972. The `Alveo` range combined Modernist designs with richly stained wood alongside brass for a warm and glamorous look. Added to this luxury there are the solid brass faceted corners, Rizzo`s trademark which turns his design into a jewel.
The `Alveo` design (translated as `riverbed`) has been published in several publications: the July/August 1972 issue of the design periodical Casa Vogue, Maison & Jardin, September issue 1973, page 131; and `Le retour de Willy Rizzo`, AD, number 86, September issue 2009, page 54.
This Rizzo design was also exhibited at the 1973 Salone del Mobile in Milan. This design is iconic of Rizzo`s glamourous designs of the period, combining Modernism with luxury materials like veneer & shiny metals. This combination makes this table a sculptural addition to a range of design schemes such as Art Deco, Hollywood Regency, Modernist, Minimalist, Industrial or Contemporary.
Condition :
Normal wear commensurates with age. Some scratches, dents and stains but not at all distracting. It gives character to this table. So don’t expect a new one.
