We are delighted to offer for sale this original Antique fully stamped Mellier & Co made, George Hilton & Son’s retailed Anglo French Shabby Chic wardrobe which is part of a set I have the matching, Dressing table listed under my other items. Mellier & Co Operating from premises located at 60 Margaret street and Cavendish square, London, the Anglo-French firm of Mellier & Co. is recorded as having taken over the family business of Monbro when the latter ceased trading in the 1880s (see C. Payne, 19th Century European Furniture, Woodbridge, 1981, p.40). They were amongst the English manufacturers who exhibited at the 1904 St Louis International Exhibition George Hilton & Sons George Hilton & Sons was a business in Haywards Heath for over a century, starting as an upholstery, cabinet makers and house furnishers in 1882, the family company developed to include removals and warehousing, an undertakers, and became Hiltons Department Store 100 years later in 1982 This wardrobe is where it all began, the massive boom that was shabby chic originated with Mellier & Co, you will see millions of pieces and reproduction French painted furniture for sale all over the world and just one of these Condition wise it is antique with period paint which has distressed and aged in places, there will age and use related patina marks all over. Dimensions Height:- 234.5cm Width:- 119cm Depth:- 73cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point. This item is available for collection from our Pulborough warehouses. CONDITION Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description pertaining to the condition. Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of creasing and wear, we recommend annual waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.

We are delighted to offer for auction this very rare original Victorian Satinwood bedroom suite by Hampton & Son’s of Pall Mall London. A very rare bedroom suite made by one of the great Victorian furniture makers Hampton & Son’s of Pall Mall London. The suite is circa 1890, made from the finest Satinwood available and with silver leaf painted detailing, each piece is Stamped with the button Label of Hampton's Pall Mall East London apart from the chair which has the Hampton plaque on the underside The dimensions of each piece are below, the main wardrobe is very large, the wardrobe with drawers is actually very small and a tallboy size, the dressing table comes with a matching chair and stool We have cleaned waxed and polished it from top to bottom, the glass in the Cherval mirror is lightly perished and aged as it’s the original plate, otherwise for me its in time warp condition Hampton and Sons were cabinet makers of Antique Furniture and were first established in ca. 1830 by William Hampton. He opened his first shop selling General household to more Fine furniture in Cranbourn Street, in London. In 1869 Williams Two sons George and William joined his business and they expended and moved to the larger premises 8 Pall Mall, London. Hampton and Sons furnished some impressive properties and boats from the Royal Yacht Britannia, the Queen Elizabeth and Queen Mary, the Theatre Royal of Drury Lane, the Duke of York Theatre, the Dorchester and the Mayfair Hotels and the palaces of two Indian princes, the Nizam of Hyderabad & the Maharajah of Kashmir. Hampton and Sons had a few disasters throughout its history, it suffered a major fire in 1890 but they re-established and went to expand their business further. They bought several cabinet making firms starting with James Coulson and Co of Lisburn, Northern Ireland in 1898, and then Goodall, Lamb and Highway of King Street, Manchester and Robson and Sons...
