Frits Henningsen Sideboard

About the Item

Frits Henningsen Mahogany Sideboard. A Danish mahogany sideboard by cabinetmaker Frits Henningsen. An executive styled sideboard having downward cabinet doors and three drawers all locking with two keys. The Danish Design Movement of the 1920' -40's was the impetus of Danish Modern design. Frits Henningsen was one of the great Danish cabinet makers of the period. He gave new expression to traditional designs and drew inspiration from French Empire, rococo, and British 17th-century furniture. As a member of the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers Guild, Henningsen became a major driver of the furniture exhibitions of the period, gaining recognition for his perfectionist style and vibrant personality. Through his own designs and workshop he achieved the highest standards of quality with exclusively handmade pieces establishing himself as a perfectionist in his craft. Every piece with the Henningsen imprimatur was entirely hand-made, using exclusively the labor-intensive, traditional methods he inherited from the nineteenth century. In very good condition, original finish, some surface marks to the top and dings to the legs, Denmark 1940's.
