Antique English Regency warm Brown Mahogany Pedestal Console or sideboard

About the Item

On offer here is a stunning antique console table made in England in the mid-19th century, around 1850. This exquisite piece is crafted from beautiful mahogany and oak. The console table stands on a solid plinth, with mahogany veneer on oak. The front features two solid hand-carved scrolled legs. The legs start with intricately carved lion's claws, above which are scrolls adorned with stylized acanthus leaves. Midway up is a potboard made of veneered mahogany. Above the legs is a top with an apron, both featuring floral mahogany veneer applied in the "livre ouvert" or "open book" method, creating a symmetrical grain pattern that adds a pleasing balance. The piece has been stained a warm brown and finished with shellac and wax, resulting in rich color and deep gloss. Over the years, the console table has developed a beautiful patina and a deep shine. The design is exceptional and was crafted by a master carpenter. The mahogany veneer on solid oak was an expensive technique but ensured durability and stability. The table is in very good authentic condition. The top shows some signs of use, such as a few darker spots and scratches, which complement the piece's authentic character. It has been gently cleaned in our workshop and a new protective wax layer has been applied. The table is clean, sturdy, and ready for use.
