About the Item

Very small Biedermeier secretary Southern Germany Walnut Biedermeier around 1815 Dimensions: H x W x D: 147 x 80 x 35 cm Description: Exceptionally delicate Biedermeier writing desk with fantastic patina. A secretary standing on pointed legs with two doors at the bottom, the writing flap above and a wide drawer at the top. We see a beautifully grained walnut veneer laid in perfect symmetry. The shellac polish enlivens the structure of the wood, emphasises light and dark contrasts in the grain and gives the wood a certain "depth". The ebonised plinth and headboard, the check-shaped key plates and the striking strip between the doors stand in stark contrast to the warm colour of the wood. Behind the doors there is a large open compartment with a shelf. When the door is open, we can see the original old snap lock. The interior behind the writing flap consists of a large open compartment with a round arch supported by pilasters. Above and below this are three small drawers in a row. Condition: Piece of furniture restored with patina preserved. The original old shellac polish has been preserved and refreshed. Traces of use and wear were deliberately preserved during conservation and give the secretary an unmistakable and very authentic character. Absolutely stable and suitable for everyday use. The chair shown in one of the photos is for size comparison and is not included in the price.

North Germany / Prussia Birch Biedermeier / Empire around 1815 Dimensions: H x W x D: 174 x 102 x 55 cm Description: Very exclusive secretary from the Prussian North German Biedermeier period around 1815. Piece of furniture standing on pointed legs with two drawers at the bottom, the writing flap above, another drawer above and a hidden head drawer at the very top. The piece of furniture is veneered in exciting grained birch wood. Due to the different color hangings within the wood and the interplay of hues associated with it, we also refer to it as "flamed" birch. The beautiful wood is complemented by blackened moldings and beautiful fire-gilded bronze hardware in beautiful quality. The interior of the writing compartment is veneered in apple tree. We see a stair-like rise to a central door flanked by pilasters. Drawers of different sizes and two large compartments with dividers for letters and papers complete the secretary part. Looking at the piece of furniture from above, we see an old shipping label. According to it, the secretary was loaded onto the train at the station "Odertor" in Wroclaw. The destination was probably Berin. Corresponding mmarkings we find on the back panel. Piece of furniture made in wonderful quality craftsmanship. A true testament to the high quality of Prussian furniture...
