Biedermeier Secretary, Bookcase, Cherry, Walnut, 1840s

About the Item

Antique cabinet secretary from the biedermeier period around 1845. Body in cherry, parts of the front and the wreath veneered in walnut. Handles and fittings made of brass in the shape of coat of arms. The secretary can be disassembled into three parts for transportation. At the bottom there is the three-drawer chest-like base. On it stands the secretary part with sloping flap. At the very top there is the two-door top. The interior consists of four drawers on the right side and a drawer-style door on the left. In the middle is an open compartment with a drawer on top. If you pull the drawer all the way out, a secret drawer opens behind it on the right. The secretary part is veneered on the top, so the piece of furniture can be placed without the display cabinet attachment, as shown in the photos. Dimensions with attachment: H x W x D: 190 x 107 x 55 cm Dimensions without attachment: H x W x D: 118 x 100 x 55 cm. Restored condition. All keys are present, the drawers run cleanly and smoothly, the surface is refurbished. There is a small chip on the trim of the lower left part of the top. This is well visible in one of the photos.

Early 19th Century Biedermeier Empire Secretary, Germany, Prussia, C. 1815
Located in Greven, DE
North Germany / Prussia Birch Biedermeier / Empire around 1815 Dimensions: H x W x D: 174 x 102 x 55 cm Description: Very exclusive secretary from the Prussian North German Biedermeier period around 1815. Piece of furniture standing on pointed legs with two drawers at the bottom, the writing flap above, another drawer above and a hidden head drawer at the very top. The piece of furniture is veneered in exciting grained birch wood. Due to the different color hangings within the wood and the interplay of hues associated with it, we also refer to it as "flamed" birch. The beautiful wood is complemented by blackened moldings and beautiful fire-gilded bronze hardware in beautiful quality. The interior of the writing compartment is veneered in apple tree. We see a stair-like rise to a central door flanked by pilasters. Drawers of different sizes and two large compartments with dividers for letters and papers complete the secretary part. Looking at the piece of furniture from above, we see an old shipping label. According to it, the secretary was loaded onto the train at the station "Odertor" in Wroclaw. The destination was probably Berin. Corresponding mmarkings we find on the back panel. Piece of furniture made in wonderful quality craftsmanship. A true testament to the high quality of Prussian furniture...
