18th c American Mahogany Dome Top Secretary with Compass Star Inlay

About the Item

A wonderful form two part American mahogany dome top secretary, its upper case with a molded cornice over two fitted doors, opening to a compartmentalized interior with open shaped vertical and horizontal cubbies, and five fitted drawers, over a lower case with slant front door, opening to a red felt top writing surface and another compartmentalized interior with center prospect door with two fitted interior drawers, flanked by valanced open cubbies (some losses) and fitted drawers, over four graduated long drawers, and a nicely carved skirt, all supported by a carved bracket base.Both the upper and lower case are decorated with compass star inlay on the doors, batwing brasses, and decorative brass hinges. Includes locking key. Dates to the 18th century in very good overall condition, with some hinge restorations, minor losses, felt stains, and other imperfections and wear commensurate with age and use.
