Small Veneto chest of drawers in cherry wood

About the Item

In the first half of the nineteenth century, Austria changed the taste in fashion and decor in Europe with the Biedermeier style, as did France with the Restoration style, referred to as "Charles X" (who was the reigning king at that time in history). Biedermeier-style furniture sees a prevalence of light-colored materials, a simplification of forms, and an interplay of contrasts. The small chest of drawers presented here is in fact made of cherry wood. It has a regular parallelepiped shape with a wooden (rather than marble as was often the case in the past) tabletop, four truncated pyramid legs, and two large drawers. It is decorated frontally with two black side bands on which a repeated motif of white lacquered buds at the top and a blooming flower at the bottom appear.
