About the Item

elegant Italian desk from the 1960s, crafted in solid teak and teak veneer, embodying the refined modernist design of the era. This piece stands out for its suspended upper top, giving it a light and sophisticated appearance. The structure rests on double uprights connected by a horizontal stretcher, combining stability with striking aesthetics. The visible metal supports beneath the top add to the desk’s architectural character. Features: – Italian design, circa 1960s – Materials: solid teak and teak veneer – Three front drawers with round patinated brass knobs – Two open storage compartments beneath the top – Solid wood base with metal reinforcement – Satin finish highlighting the natural grain of the wood Gianfranco Frattini was born in Padua on May 15, 1926. He graduated from the Politecnico (Polytechnic School) of Milan in Architecture in 1953 and joined Gio Ponti's office. From 1954, thanks to Ponti, he began to work with Cesare Cassina, who will always remain an important reference point for him. He was one of the founders of the ADI and was several times a member of the Steering Committee of the Milan Triennial. He opened his own office, initially with Franco Bettonica, via Lanzone in Milan. He has worked with many companies in the field of furniture and lighting design, including Bernini, Arteluce, Knoll and Artemide, for whom he designed with Livio Castiglioni the "Boalum" floor lamp, a true masterpiece and above all an innovation in terms of typology. Frattini's relationship with Pierluigi Ghianda, a cabinetmaker of Bovisio Masciago, was also extremely important. Beyond the human aspect, this relationship exemplified his passion for working with artisans, always attentive to the quality of production and concepts. Wood was undoubtedly Frattini's favorite material. Some of his interior architecture, another professional field in which Frattini left a significant legacy, formed the backdrop of several of Milan's trendiest establishments in the early 1960s, in particular the Stork Club and the Andrews restaurant. His designs in Portofino, Capri and the interiors of the Hilton hotel in Tokyo, are just as unforgettable. His work has been reported many times at the Compasso d'Oro Prize, and he has also won Medals and the GranPremio of the Milan Triennale
