French Mid-19th Century Louis XV Style Kingwood and Ormolu Bureau Plat

About the Item

A striking and high quality French mid-19th century Louis XV style kingwood and ormolu bureau plat. The desk is raised by elegant cabriole legs with fine fitted wraparound ormolu sabots with a lovely foliate design. Graceful ormolu fillets extend up each leg to richly chased pierced foliate corner mounts and along the scalloped shaped apron. The apron displays three drawers each decorated with remarkable keyhole escutcheons set on a most decorative quarter veneered background. The sides display a lovely arbalest shape and are centered by beautiful and finely detailed floral ormolu mounts below concealed pull outs retaining their original gold tooled leather writing surface. Above is the original gold tooled leather writing surface framed within an elegant kingwood border and fine scalloped shaped mottled ormolu gallery. Length with pull outs open: 60".
