This exceptional and magnificent large Italian desk is crafted in walnut. The top, the front panels of the doors, and the central drawer are veneered in feathered walnut, while the interior drawers, made of solid walnut, feature a boxed structure to lighten the imposing design. Feathered walnut is one of the finest wood grains, distinguished by an elegant natural pattern resembling feathers. This unique effect is achieved by longitudinally cutting the tree trunk at the point where it forks into two branches, revealing a stunning, symmetrical grain. A masterpiece of Art Deco cabinetry, this desk was crafted between 1930 and 1935 in Brianza, between Como and Monza (Italy), a region that was—and still is—renowned for its excellence in high-end furniture production. In the 1930s, many luxury Italian furnishings were created in Brianza’s renowned workshops, celebrated for their exceptional woodworking skills. This desk was likely produced by a specialized atelier dedicated to crafting bespoke furniture for an elite clientele. The design reflects the international Art Deco style, featuring clean and harmonious lines that strike a perfect balance between functionality and aesthetic refinement. The final hand-rubbed finish enhances the wood’s depth, enriching its warm tones and intricate grain. Thanks to this careful restoration, the desk is in excellent condition.
