Regency Mahogany Chiffonier

About the Item

A Very Good Quality Late Regency Period mahogany Chiffonier, Of Diminutive Proportions, Having Brass Galleried Superstructure To Top, Raised On Elegant Scrolling Supports Over Upholstered Brass Grille Panelled Doors And Sides With Tapering Supports Headed By Carved Flower Heads. The definition of a chiffonier is a piece of furniture which is designed to stand against a wall at the side of the room in a similar fashion to a sideboard, but of smaller size and with the total enclosure of the bottom section by doors. The name itself actually comes from the french for rag picker which obviously suggests that the original intention of these pieces was for them to be used around the house as a receptacle for various different odds and ends. This particular chiffonier is incredibly elegant and incredibly charming. It has been constructed from good quality mahogany timbers and a particularly unusual feature is the panelled sides, something which we have rarely seen before and something which we think is actually a most elegant, classy feature indeed. In good, functional condition this chiffonier could be used in a whole host of places around the home, offering excellent fucntionality and versatility, combined with great elegance and sophistication of course. As with all of the items which we offer for sale this regency mahogany chiffonier has been attended to in the traditional fashion at our workshops by our highly skilled and well trained antique furniture restorers and is now ready to go straight into the home having received a good clean and natural beeswax polish. Incidentally should one wish to change the fabric in the panels this is an extremely easy task to carry out as they all have the ability to be removed and worked on individually. Circa 1830.
