Early 20th Century French Louis XVI Gilt Bronze Mounted Mahogany Credenza
About the Item
An extraordinary, very fine quality, circa 1920s French gilt bronze ormolu mounted mahogany, burled walnut, tambour marble-top sideboard (credenza server bar cabinet buffet chest)
Retaining extensive provenance, including recently featured in world renowned designer Ken Fulk's "A Study in Optimism" exhibition at the Kips Bay Decorator Show House Dallas 2021. More details below.
A most impressive masterpiece, exquisitely hand-crafted in the early 20th century, most likely the very finest quality Parisian work, superior craftsmanship and construction, substantial size and presence, exceptionally executed in luxurious Louis XVI style, with nods to period Art Deco taste.
Featuring an elegant demilune console form, topped with a massive thick dramatically veined white marble slab top with contoured and beveled edge, atop the finest quality solid wood case, having a set of four frieze drawers with original gilt brass ring pull fittings, quality dovetail joinery, and custom fitted finished drawer interiors. Above the central double door cabinet with rich, stunning book-matched burlwood inlays, flanked by a pair of gracefully curving shaped tambour panel doors, opening to reveal a luxurious mahogany finished interior adorned with a single shelf offering generous storage space. Each door and drawer locking with inset patinated brass keyhole shaped escutcheon and set of seven keys, lockplate signed "VF" for important French locksmith Vachette Freres.
Beautiful, bold design, luxurious detailing throughout, bright lustrous patina and antique wood glow, brilliant bronze dore running ornamentation, resting on four ornate finely chiseled and sculpted stylized acanthus gilded bronze capped feet.

Property from the magnificent Dallas estate of Stuart Cutshall (1940-2019).
Loyd Paxton Gallery, Dallas, Texas.
With one of the finest collections in the world and prominent customers to match, including Sir Elton John, Truman Capote, Saudi Prince Faisal, and the Sultan of Brunei. Rare French antiques from Loyd-Paxton made their way into Versailles when it underwent renovations, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York purchased furnishings, including a dazzling Louis XIV Boulle desk that had been owned by the Sun King himself.
Known for his signature phrase, "Magic is Hard Work" Mr. Stuart Cutshall began his career at the age of 17 in the U.S. Army Special Forces, serving in Germany with the 8th Infantry Division and the 82nd Airborne Division. After returning to the US, he earned his cosmetology license in El Paso and arrived in Dallas in 1961 as a hair stylist at Neiman Marcus. Later opening Stuart Salon at Marie Leavell, he gained notoriety for creating the signature hairstyles for Mary Wells and Braniff-International Airlines' "End of the Plain Plane" campaign in 1965. He then ventured into the art world as the proprietor of The Cutshall Collection, a gallery which popularized the Symbolic Realism movement in Dallas. Simultaneously, he owned and operated Stuart's salon in Inwood Village. Upon closing his gallery and salon, he became a private investor and art collector, anonymously supporting the arts throughout the city.
