19th Century English Walnut and Burr Walnut Credenza / Server / Display Cabinet

About the Item

This is a walnut credenza / server / display cabinet made in England, circa 1860. The entirety of the piece is done in walnut and an incredible, highly figured cut of Kashmir walnut (Kashmir walnut is the finest cut of burr walnut). The cabinet has a beautifully shaped top with a nicely shaped molding. The top is banded in peppy yew with a string inlay of satinwood on either side of the banding. There are 4 columns to the front of the cabinet that are well turned and reeded with fabulous carved brass capitals to the top of each column. There is an ornate brass molding that is on the upper right and left sides, around each column, and across the front of the cabinet. The right and left doors maintain their original, old wavy glass. The frames of the glass doors have a walnut banding with string inlays of satinwood on both sides and an additional smaller banding of peppy yew. The central door frame is done in the same manner with an additional peppy yew banding on the door panel. There is a beautiful plaque to the middle door depicting 2 Grecian women. The plaque is surrounded by an ornate brass frame. Each of the 3 doors have 2 shelves inside. There are wonderful decorative satinwood inlays above each of the 3 doors. The plinth base even has a banding separated with a string inlay of satinwood. The physical condition and overall finish is wonderful. This is a stunningly beautiful piece of very fine quality, mid-19th century, English Furniture. It measures 66 1/2 in. wide x 16 in. deep x 40 in. tall.
