Period Louis XVI Small Marble Top Corner Cabinet

About the Item

This fine and small Enconignure (corner cabinet) is constructed of book-matched and quarter paneled Tulip-wood veneer bordered by marquetry line inlays and marquetry stop fluting at the corners. All of this is enhanced with gilt bronze mounts thru-out. The cabinet is topped with a good liver and cream-colored marble top. The top is an old replacement but still more than likely a 100 years old itself. The piece is classical in its design with a bold yet simple directness. It retains much original color and patina but is still fresh and usable.

The table is carved from mahogany, an interesting and expensive choice but one allowing for deeply detailed carving and good structural stability. The finish is an old dry paint...

Located in Dallas, TX
19th Century French Louis XVI Hand-Carved Corner Cabinet is a splendid example of craftsmanship resulting in a design that takes advantage of otherwise dead space in the room, and turns it into a showcase! The classic lines of this heirloom revolve around its use as a vitrine, or curio cabinet, with a high, arched crown adorned with an urn filled with fruit and fixed with laurel garland centered on the scrolled molding overlooking a bonnet subtly carved with olive branches in bas relief.
