About the Item

An Italian 19th century Baroque Revival style carved walnut figural Cassone chest-trunk. The ornately carved chest, also known as a marriage chest, with an opening top supported with wrought iron hinges, the front centered with a crest and surmounted with female masks and floral motifs, raised on paw-feet topped with male mask. The interior lined with a red fabric, circa 1860. Measures: Height 29 3/8 inches (74.6 cm) Width 71 inches (180.4 cm) Depth 27 inches (68.6 cm).
