Louis XV Oak Display Cabinet, circa 1780

About the Item

The definition of elegance, this stunning Louis XV display cabinet from the late-18th century is crafted from European oak with exceptional carvings and graceful lines. The arched bonnet is crowned with a substantial carved shell enclosing a decorative center. Lined with newer, plush red fabric, the top portion of the cabinet has glass on three sides for displaying your favorite items. Double doors follow the arch of the bonnet and open to three scalloped shelves. All but one of the shelves is covered with fabric. Supporting the display top, the lower portion of the cabinet has a height of 43.25 inches and features two drawers over double doors that resemble the bonnet with their arched raised panels. The doors are crowned with carved C scrolls, wispy leaves, and small shells. They open to generous storage with two shelves. Short cabriole legs that terminate in whorl feet support the cabinet. Fanned shells embellish the forefeet at their knees. The glass has been edited in the first photo to remove reflection.
