French Louis Philippe Armoire, c. 1850

About the Item

This elegant French armoire dates to the mid-19th century, crafted in the Louis Philippe style with streamlined form and luminous, warm brown maple veneer. The well-proportioned cabinet has the quiet simplicity of French Provincial furniture and was likely originally commissioned for a Bastide country home in southern France. The armoire opens by two full-length doors affixed with brass keyhole escutcheons of an elaborate openwork design, richly textured by an antique patina and complete with the original key. S-curve crown molding and flared front legs add subtle design intrigue and frame the straight sides with pleasing curvature. Ideal today as a cupboard or linen press, the cabinet offers ample storage with four interior shelves and two drawers. Includes original door key.
