French 20th Century Solid Oak Bibliotheque
About the Item
An impressive solid oak bibliotheque from early 20th century France, split into two bodies for easier installation & transportation. Beneath a Louis Philippe inspired cornice of angled (notched) corners, the upper body is represented by three glassfront doors enclosing the vitrine with two shelves adjustable on sawtooth brackets (14 ½” D). Glass panes are clear, without waves or bubbles. Hidden in the center of the molding that delineates the upper and lower bodies, is a pull-out shelf (19 ⅜” W x 12 ½” D), presumably where one might place books after removing them from the shelves. All doors are hung on barrel hinges and contain functional locks, with five keys included. The lower body complements the top section with three paneled doors accented by rosette carvings in the corners of each raised panel. The locking doors conceal three shallow drawers above one stationary shelf, 14 ½”D, spanning the width of the interior. Turned wood toupie feet raise the case off the floor. This substantial oak bibliotheque has undergone a thorough refinishing to clean, tighten, and polish the surfaces. Please view the detailed images.
