18th Century English Demilune Cabinet

About the Item

18th century English demilune cabinet The high-quality demilune buffet furniture dates back to the last quarter of the 19th Century and was made in England. The wood is characterized by a clear colouration, characterized by a lustre and a fine streak with clear areas alternated with dark areas. The cabinetmaker who designed this piece of furniture skilfully matched the wooden mirrors to create decorative effects by playing with the grain. The style recalls the design of the furniture by Thomas Sheraton, a famous London cabinet maker, which marked, between 1792 and 1805, an important moment in the history of English furniture. Sheraton diffused the style that takes its name from him and that differs for lightness of the design, linear shapes, simple but refined elegance, underlined by the delicacy of the ornamental elements, entrusted to the techniques of carving and inlay. This demilune sideboard is raised on four turned legs, corresponding to pilasters that run in height over the cabinet. It has three drawers, of which one large central, decorated with inlays representing garlands and bows. The bronze handles have a neoclassical vase plate. It has a central door with a panel decorated with Fine inlays with vases of flowers, ribbons, neoclassical elements and an octagonal medallion with a classical figure in grisaille. Inside there are two large compartments, as well as in the side parts there are two small shelves. The buffet furniture is very versatile: they adapt to any room of the house, from the entrance to the living room, and offer endless possibilities of use. Y. Brunhammer, U. 18th Century, Italian Louis XV Wood Center Table

18th century, Italian Louis XV wood center table This elegant and refined center cabinet was made in Turin around the mid-18th century. Characteristic of the high Piedmontese cabinet making, for this piece of furniture, a veneer was chosen with the particular wood, applied on the piece of furniture with a sophisticated game of mirrors and patterns of the wood grain. The furniture has a shaped and wavy top, and the wooden essence creates a chromatic game called "a occhio di pernice" (partridge eye). On the front it consists of two drawers and a compartment protected by two doors. The opening system of the doors is sliding, very rare and difficult to achieve. The mouthpieces of the locks are in chiseled bronze and gold, as well as the tips of the four legs that are arched and graceful, typical of the Baroque. This cabinet is perfect for any room and can also be exposed in the center of a room thanks to its finish on all four sides. It is also suitable alongside modern and antique furniture.
