About the Item
Antique French Louis XVI Maple Marquetry Marble Top Display Buffet is yet another unusual find. Crafted from finely figured maple with "curly" grain effects, it was designed to provide a carefree serving surface, storage for cutlery and flatware, and display your finest keepsakes in two tiers below! The luxuriously veined marble top with beveled edge is a splendid neutral color combination that works with a wide palette. The sides are of a tailored design, with spiral ribbon trim outlining the original beveled glass to make a visual statement from side angles as well as let more light in. The drawer tier just under the marble continues the tailored design effect, with finely framed drawer fronts accented with cast brass bale pulls. Rounded, fluted corners frame the doors below which duplicate the look of the sides with spiral ribbon trim and beveled glass, and with the interior glass shelf, combine to allow enough ambient light into the interior to make electric lighting unnecessary. The center stile between the doors has been lavished with a sculptural study of intertwined rings, musical instruments, flowers and foliage all bound by flowing ribbon executed in astounding full relief. The base and legs below return back to the tailored effect to complete the truly unique design.
