Antique Country French Walnut Buffet ~ Credenza
About the Item
Antique Country French Walnut Buffet ~ Credenza is a charming example of the excellence in craftsmanship exhibited by the French, even in the smaller production companies scattered throughout the country! Utilizing prized indigenous walnut, the artisans crafted a generous surface, directly beneath which appear a pair of drawers with the facades cut in an intriguing urn form and centered with cast brass pulls. Between the drawers a stylized sunflower carving provides an interesting visual cue, and appears over the center stile which was lavished with wildflower sprays oriented vertically within a molded framework. The two large cabinet doors flank the stile, and are fitted with gracefully contoured frameworks surrounding an otherwise unadorned chamfered panel that was allowed to showcase the sheer natural beauty of the wood. At the tops of the door frameworks appear wildflower sprays reaching from the sides to complement the center stile. Intricate cast brass key guards and barrel hinges complete the cabinetry, with a restrained scrollwork for the apron supported by scrolled legs carved with acanthus plumes and escargot feet. Arched panels on the sides ensure visual appeal from any angle.
