Antique English 19th Century William IV Oak Breakfront Bookcase

About the Item

An impressive William IV/early Victorian four door breakfront bookcase or bookcase cabinet. Rare to find such a large bookcase in golden quarter-sawn oak which has the attractive ‘tiger grain’ or medullary rays, it has a square cornered moulded cornice above four glazed doors with rounded mouldings and enclosing four adjustable shelves to each section, the stepped out base with four fielded panel doors opening to reveal shelves and two drawers and all raised on a conforming plinth base. In good condition and able to store a 13.8m / 45ft 3in run of books, sides also feature what would have been more expensive quarter sawn oak, some wear to the edges of the top of the base and old shrinkage lines to the back of the sides, it comes with keys for the locks. This bookcase divides into 5 sections for moving and the parts should be screwed together on assembly.
