Rare 18th c. Lobster Pot Windsor Armchair
About the Item
Very good English lobster pot Windsor chair, having shaped crest over shaved spindles with bent yew wood continuous arm over deeply saddled elm seat and standing on pole lathe turned legs, bearing owner's brand "NP" to the underside of the plank seat, possessing good rich color and patination.
So called "lobster pot" Windsor chairs are essentially comb back windsor chairs, but rather than flaring at the crest, they are pinched inward in the shape of traditional lobster traps and are almost always of naive, folksy manufacture and are highly prized for their individual nature.
