Chinese Iron Star Chopping Stool, c. 1900

About the Item

Dated to the turn of the century, this provincial stool would have been used throughout a courtyard home as versatile everyday seating. Deceptively simple, the wooden stool is designed with a round seat and three splayed legs linked by stretchers that interlock with iron hardware to form a star formation. When not in use as a seat or side table, the rustic stool likely doubled as a kitchen chopping block, as evidenced by the many blade marks that texture the seat and enhance the irregular beauty of the grain.
