Solid Pau Marfim Lounge chairs, Unknown, 1950s, Brazilian Mid-century Modern

About the Item

Designed and manufactured in the 1950s, these lounge chairs were built in Solid Pau Marfim Wood. The legs and backrest have a "V” shaped structure that resembles a boomerang. Solid wood slats, installed in a rhythmic pattern, are connected to the sides. The chair draws inspiration from Pierre Jeanneret’s 1948 "Scissor Chair," a design widely recognized through Knoll’s magazine advertisements. For years, the piece was mistakenly attributed to Lina Bo Bardi and her company, Fábrica de Móveis Pau Brasil. While its true manufacturer remains unknown, the chair’s refined structure and folding mechanism reflect Jeanneret’s influence, showcasing the lasting impact of his modernist vision. The lounge chairs have been fully restored and are in great condition, with new upholstery made with Bossa Fabrics.
