About the Item

This vintage sling lounge chair channels the rugged elegance and clean utility of Scandinavian Modern design, closely echoing the aesthetic of Karin Mobring’s iconic “Diana” Safari chairs for IKEA, circa 1970s. While not identical in construction, this chair shares the same spirit, an honest, architectural frame paired with canvas sling supports for an effortlessly stylish and comfortable seat. Crafted in solid wood (likely pine or fir), the frame features squared lines and exposed joinery. The seat and backrest are made of a natural woven canvas suspended in tension, offering a hammock-like sit with ergonomic give while the backrest can tilt / pivot to match your body as you recline into the chair. The result is a lounge chair that feels equally suited to a rustic mountain retreat or a minimalist city loft. With visual references to the work of Karin Mobring and Jens Risom, and a build reminiscent of both Scandinavian and American studio furniture from the 1960s and ‘70s, this piece exudes warmth, clarity, and unpretentious charm. This easy chair would work beautifully in a Mid-Century Modern, Scandinavian Modern, or Danish Modern home or penthouse apartment but could also look fantastic in a Contemporary, Wabi-Sabi, or Postmodern room. Consider mixing it up in a Traditional, Transitional, Classical, or Art Deco space for an unexpected touch of contrast. A fantastic fit for commercial interiors as well, ideal for a hotel lobby lounge, boutique studio, creative agency, or executive office. Versatile in its function and footprint, this piece would make a striking fireside chair, reading chair, entryway accent, or occasional chair in virtually any setting.
