About the Item

Italian furniture from the mid-century era is defined by an elegant design aesthetic, perfect execution, and exclusivity. This pair of lounge chairs has a design language that is coherent with current times, yet it is also congenial to the wisdom of furniture manufacturing, representing an outpost of strong innovation in the panorama of Italian craftsmanship. The design is focused on elegant and measured proportions, balanced compositions, and refined décor elements including the exclusive materials. The outline of the chairs is quite sculptural, with characteristic curved shapes thanks to which the chairs have an attractive profile that showcases the rounded arms and “ears” on the top. As a result of the latter, the backs are visually defining thanks to the curved “flaps” or “ears” embracing the sitter, and their flowing lines continuing in the armrests. The sheer size becomes apparent from the back, with large upholstered surfaces that show off the gorgeous fabric. The richly textured yellowish fabric adds plenty of depth, while it also brings out the versatility of the shapes even further. Furthermore, the fabric complements the solid wood legs as well. The tapered style enhances the shapes and forms of the chairs’ bodies, proving the designer’s great sense of proportions. Italian mid-century designers were especially passionate about furniture and product design, an area where many of them remained faithful to a figurative repertoire of substantial classicism, while not disdaining impulses of authentic modernity. Though many mid-century Italian designers may not have the name recognition as some of their Scandinavian counterparts, they were integral to developing a modern aesthetic in Europe.
