Eames Herman Miller LCW Lounge Chairs in British Forest Green Wool, Pair

About the Item

The celebrated portfolio of Charles and Ray Eames continues to inspire designers to this day. Early in their mission to create furniture for the masses, the Eameses explored innovative materials, ultimately embracing molded plywood as the defining element of their post-war furniture collection. Their commitment to "honest materials"—wood resembling wood and metal resembling metal—was evident in their groundbreaking 1946 collection, which introduced Dining Chairs (DCW/DCM), Lounge Chairs (LCW/LCM), along with tables and case goods. Herman Miller became the exclusive distributor and manufacturer of these pieces by 1947. Though the Lounge Chairs were discontinued in the mid-1950s due to slow sales, Herman Miller revived the design in the 1990s, reaffirming its status as a classic. This particular pair of contemporary edition Eames LCW (Lounge Chair Wood) Chairs features a stunning walnut veneer on molded plywood frames. The back and seat shells are secured to the frame with thermoset shock mounts, a signature innovation by Charles Eames. These shock mounts introduce flexibility, allowing the chair to adapt to the user's preferred sitting position while maintaining structural integrity. Our team has upholstered these chairs with great care in a recycled British Wool in the color Forest, a luxurious material from our collection of imported fabrics. The rich blend of deep green tones beautifully complements the original walnut frames, creating a timeless and elegant pairing. The LCW's design, composed of just five pieces of molded plywood, exemplifies the Eameses' forward-thinking, timeless aesthetic. Simple, honest, and universal, these qualities are fully embodied in the LCW Plywood Lounge Chairs. Remaining in their original condition with only minor wear consistent with age and use, they are visually understated yet highly versatile. These chairs can serve as elegant lounge seating in a relaxed living space, occasional seating in a bedroom, or as a refined addition to a reading nook.

Eames Soft-Pad Executive Chairs in Charcoal Maharam Wool by Herman Miller
By Charles and Ray Eames, Herman Miller
Located in Stamford, CT
The great portfolio of Charles & Ray Eames is widely celebrated and serves as a model of inspiration for designers to this day. One of their most recognizable designs is the Aluminum Group line for Herman Miller from which these Soft Pad Executive Chairs were born. It is said that the Soft Pad variation was a design accident - cushions from the Eames Chaise found themselves draped over an Aluminum Group chair, and the rest is history. Whatever the story may be, the comfort of Charles & Ray’s Soft Pad seating perhaps rivals that of their famed Eames Lounge Chair. The Soft Pad collection consists of a Lounge Chair, a Low Back Management Chair, and this High Back Executive Chair. The design language is similar to the Eames Aluminum Group suite which sports a single “sling” of material which is tethered to two cast aluminum side rails and in this case, four plush cushions for optimal comfort. These chairs are equipped with a tilt mechanism with tension control as well as manual height adjustment. We have a large quantity of these Eames Soft Pad Executive Chairs...

1940s Pair of Early Charles Eames for Herman Miller LCW Lounge Chairs in Oak
By Herman Miller, Evans Products Company, Charles and Ray Eames
Located in Philadelphia, PA
Designed in the late 1940s by Charles Eames, this chair has cemented itself in Mid-Century Design like very few other pieces. Early models like this are difficult to come by and are very rarely in such good condition, as many have been worked on in some way or another before their value shot up. These chairs feature a super sleek design of steam-bent plywood, an incredibly innovative technique pioneered by Herman Miller in collaboration with the Eames's and manufacturing firm Evans. The large seat and back are mounted to a molded plywood base with rubber shock mounts, another Eames staple. This allows them to have excellent contrast through spacing, which gives them an excellent stance, almost insect-like. Both are early chairs with the correct screw configurations beneath. This pair features all original hardware, finish, and shock mounts. Very few blemishes, and those that exist are minimal, barely visible even in our high-res pictures. At this time, we have two early pairs, as seen in in photos. We also have another single early model, and two extremely rare pre-production chairs with the accompanying molded plywood coffee table...
