Brazilian Modernist Club Chairs by Móveis Cimo, a Pair, circa 1950s

About the Item

A pair of Brazilian modernist chairs by Móveis Cimo, circa late 1950s. Sculpturally crafted from rosewood and featuring original camel-hued leather, these statement club chairs are rare and valuable icons of design. Note the metallic details punctuating the geometry of the wood, which harken to brutalist sensibilities, as well as the wood grain which runs uniquely through the elbows of the chairs. Móveis Cimo was founded in 1913 by Willy Jung and Jorge Zipperer in Rio Negrinho and was renowned for crafting and manufacturing extraordinary artistic furnitures - these chairs certainly attest to that - before it shuttered in 1982. In quite fabulous condition with minor signs of age. Pick up in Los Angeles or worldwide shipping available; please do not hesitate to reach out for alternative shipping options! Monumental Brutalist Ashtray by Marcello Fantoni for Raymor, 1950s
By Raymor, Marcello Fantoni
Located in View Park, CA
A green glow: monumental vintage Italian brutalist hand-worked metal ashtray by Marcello Fantoni for Raymor, made in Italy circa 1950. Patinated copper in tones of chartreuse, teal, and pewter. Born in Florence in 1915, Marcello Fantoni wed ancient Italian pottery technique with decidedly Modernist elements, garnering tremendous acclaim both at home and abroad - his work has been collected by important museums worldwide. When Fantoni died in Florence in 2011 at the age of 95, his obituary in the Italian newspaper La Nazione hailed him “the master of beauty.” This stunning piece certainly justifies the moniker. With the signature etched on verso, it is without doubt an heirloom rarity for the savvy collector...

Organic Shape Chair by Moveis Cimo, Brazil 1950s
By Moveis Cimo
Located in Whitstable, GB
Small curved chair with organic shaped ivory wood base, 'Pau Marfim'. Brazil, 1950s. The wooden frame is really eye catching; the organic shape frame is divided into three parts, with beautiful rounded edges and curves. There are some minor marks of wear and age, normal in a vintage piece, but frame is in excellent condition. The slightly angled back and seating appear to float on the frame. This chair design is very unique, and at the same time, very ergonomic: The seat and backrest provide a very comfortable seating experience. New upholstery in a light green zigzag fabric.
