About the Item

Pair of bistro chairs in the style of Thonet chairs with curved wood. Indeed Michael Thonet worked enormously on the development of the technique of curved wood. He was inspired by other fields such as cooperage and boat builders who were thinking of exploiting the natural elasticity of wood. His revolutionary idea was to boil sheets of wood of the same thickness in glue to give them the desired curvature. The seat is made of cane. France, mid-20th century.
