Brazilian Modern Lounge Chairs by Móveis Cimo, 1960s Signed

About the Item

An exceptional pair of Brazilian modernist lounge chairs by Móveis Cimo, 1960's. Sculpturally crafted from solid Brazilian rosewood these statement club chairs are rare and valuable icons of design. Original condition and upholstery, and still retain their original paper makers label. Cimo's story began in 1913 as a wood box factory called A.Ehrl e Cia. It transformed into a furniture factory named Móveis Cimo S.A. in 1982 after several changes. It became the most significant maker in Latin America, shaping the region's development and furniture manufacturing. The lounge chair, a creation of Móveis Cimo, stems from a Brazilian furniture factory established by Jorge Zipperer and Willy Jung in 1913 in Santa Catarina, Brazil. It grew to be the biggest furniture factory in Latin America from the 1930s to 1970s. The chair showcases the company's design philosophy, capturing Brazilian culture's essence with natural materials and organic shapes for distinctive and inventive furniture. Móveis Cimo's pieces are known for quality, lasting power, and timeless allure, and this lounge chair stands as proof of that tradition.

Organic Shape Chair by Moveis Cimo, Brazil 1950s
By Moveis Cimo
Located in Whitstable, GB
Small curved chair with organic shaped ivory wood base, 'Pau Marfim'. Brazil, 1950s. The wooden frame is really eye catching; the organic shape frame is divided into three parts, with beautiful rounded edges and curves. There are some minor marks of wear and age, normal in a vintage piece, but frame is in excellent condition. The slightly angled back and seating appear to float on the frame. This chair design is very unique, and at the same time, very ergonomic: The seat and backrest provide a very comfortable seating experience. New upholstery in a light green zigzag fabric.
