Antique French 18th century Louis XV style pair velvet chairs pegged joinery

About the Item

Pair of antique hand carved pegged construction Louis XV French armchairs. Pegged construction joinery technique on pair of chairs which faded from use in early 1800s. Newly recovered in velvet. Velvet is a close match to FB Inchyra Blue. The old springs were also replaced. Double welt cording encircles the fabric portion of chairs. Found in Northern France. The chair have a distinctive curved back and cabriole legs, The chairs are upholstered in rich velvet fabric which was common to the time period of the day. The woodwork of the chairs features intricate carvings and details. The wood has a warm soft light French polish which gives them a hint of sheen. They are still sturdy and perform as an armchair should. These chairs are petite and the scale works well beside a fireplace, at the end of a bed, in a long hallway, and flanking a case good piece. They would also make a great addition to a large feminine dressing room or closet.

Condition:

Reupholstered. Refinished. Wear consistent with age and use. Newly recovered and new springs in both chairs. One of the chairs has a one inch slit to the underneath of the chair to the lining. Chair has to be upside down to see the slit. This is noted in one of the pictures.
