Louis XV Style Walnut Caned Bench, French Mid 20th Century

About the Item

Made of a walnut frame with a caned seating area, this walnut bench has cabriole legs with scroll feet separated by a stretcher. Beautiful designs are carved into the wood of the bench along the sides and legs. The French piece dates back to the mid 20th century and is embellished with carvings classic to the Louis XV style. The piece is part of the collection from The French Antique Shop, a fourth generation antique store in the heart of the French Quarter of New Orleans. A space that was created and curated at first by Marie and Marcelle and Granet. Their first shop was located in the heart of Paris, and opened in 1919 after they migrated to Paris from Romania post World War I. Shortly after establishing themselves in Paris, as a Jewish family they were forced to flee in the late 1930s before World War II. Marie and Marcel opened up their shop in New Orleans in 1939, the city in which this antique collection has grown and continues to flourish. The store is now run by the third and fourth generation, Marc, Michael, and Brian Friedlander, and is a highly curated space filled with rare antiquities, fine antique lighting, eclectic fixtures, and everything in between. We have imported all the antique items in our collection directly from France.
