19th Century Rococo-Style Gilt Settee or Bench

About the Item

This is a charming mid-19th century carved Italian or Spanish gilt wood settee or bench. The bench features shell carved cabriole legs ending in snail-form feet. The scrolling seat frame is centered by a carved gilt wood medallion. The serpentine seat crest features a center carved cartouche. In addition to the bench's unique frame, it is upholstered in the highest quality Italian wool damask chenille in a pattern reminiscent of William Morris designs. The exquisite vintage upholstery is in overall very good condition with minor indications of use. This bench could incorporate into a multitude of design aesthetics as it has that high-energy eye-catching presence.
