Wink Armchair by Toshiyuki Kita for Cassina Ergonomically correct and exquisitely versatile, Cassina’s Wink armchair cleverly unfolds into a chaise-longue. “Sitting on Wink means sitting on the floor and, when you are seated there, according to oriental tradition, your spirit rises,” explains designer Toshiyuki Kita. Its proportions of-the- moment, Wink has a multi-functional mission with a pop look, and can be personalised in either leather, or in an ample array of fabrics and colours, with more added regularly. The back, and head-rest can be adjusted by means of the handles on the side, these being available in a range of shades to match the front and back legs. INSPIRATION SPEAKS ERGONOMICS Wink rises out of the complex interweaving of Western ways and Asian influences, a versatile, eclectic design armchair that, by folding its base, becomes a chaise longue. By virtue of its contoured cushions and soft padding, the high back armchair conforms to the shape of the body. Tongue-in-cheek and agile, it can easily be shifted from a seated to a lying position. Wink by Cassina allows the position of the backrest, including the headrest with reclinable sections, to be adjusted using two side handles, available in sets of different colors to match the front and rear feet. Furniture manufacturer Cassina is a prolific design house for more reasons than one: It not only owns the licenses to an exquisite collection of iconic chairs, sofas, tables and other pieces from the 20th and 21st centuries but also produces original works that are characterized by innovation and the finest Italian craftsmanship.

Cassina’s illustrious legacy includes being one of the first companies to bring industrial design to Italy in the 1950s. Founded in 1927 in Meda, Italy, by brothers Cesare and Umberto Cassina, the Italian manufacturing giant originally specialized in bespoke woodworking. In nearly a century since its founding, the company has shown incredible foresight about design trends and the evolution of technology.

In 1964, Cassina signed an exclusive licensing agreement to manufacture furniture by Le Corbusier and his collaborators — such as the LC4 chaise longue made with trailblazing French modernist Charlotte Perriand and Pierre Jeanneret — a move that would shape the future of the company.
