About the Item

Mid 19th century elm captains armchair circa 1860. Good quality character armchair made from solid elm.  Shaped back and arm linked with turned spindles to the seat.  Turned legs united by stretcher. Obvious surface marks and natural movement to woodwork which only adds to the character.  Structurally sound and ready for everyday use. Seat height: 17 1/4" Seat width: 15 1/4" Seat depth: 17" Arm height: 28"

Pair of Early 19th Century Elm Chinese Armchairs

These chairs from circa 1840 are well made and retain the original split cane woven inset seat mats. The wood is finished in a deep rich red transparent lacquer giving the wood a lustrous finish . They are generous in scale and comfortable and original throughout. The arms are carved in a bamboo pattern and the central splat is decorated with a pierced Chinese linguistic character.
