Large Aubusson rug, classically decorated with floral motifs, from the 1700s

About the Item

Large Aubusson rug, classically decorated with floral motifs, from the 1700s Period: late 1700s Origin: France Measurements: 473 cm x 652 cm (approximately 186.2 inches x 256.7 inches) The Aubusson rug originated in France, in the town of the same name. During the 14th century, a group of tapestry weavers of Flemish origin arrived in this town, choosing this place to wash, degrease, and dye the wool for their works. The famous wooded areas soon became the main focus of any work created through the art of "point plant" weaving. Not surprisingly, the focus of every Aubusson rug depicts lions, wild boars, unicorns, deer, hunting scenes, with local vegetation and flora. Aubusson rugs are a true status symbol.
