Magnificent Moroccan Aubergine Ground Berber Large Rug with White Diamonds

About the Item

A truly one-of-a-kind room size Moroccan rug, hand-knotted by Berber women from the M'rirt region, located in the heart of the Middle Atlas mountains. Rugs of this type were commissioned from the beginning of the 21st century in order to satisfy a demand for Moroccan carpets in larger sizes, since the vintage ones were still woven in traditional narrow formats. Examples of this type document the initial transition of traditional tribal design motifs, such as the network of asymmetrical diamonds we see here and which characterises the weavings of the nearby Beni Ouarain confederation, into a wider format, allowing weavers to show their interpretation of how to reorganise the network. The striated aubergine purple background, rich colour gradations, provides the ideal liquidity to balance the geometric repeat. M'rirt weavings are traditionally known for employing the best quality silky wool, adding an extra sparkle to the composition. A genuine Moroccan carpet woven with love that will surely be the perfect addition to many of our contemporary interiors.

Moroccan rugs have been a popular choice for contemporary interiors for many years. Firstly for their quality but more so for their decorative merit. They have so many different designs and styles you really can create a truly unique space just by using a Moroccan rug. Their designs are usual irregular, abstract and subtle which allows these to work in a huge number of spaces. For me the textures and patterns of these rugs makes them a great piece to build a room around or add to finish a room off. This example is a very impressive Black and white berber rug...
