Antique Chinese Rug Silk Royal Gold Background Color

About the Item

This is a highly unique silk Chinese pictorial rug woven during the end of the 19th century circa 1890's and measures 223 X 123CM in size. This rug shows a member of the royal family set on the royal gold background color surrounded by traditional Chinese motifs. The border of this rug is extremely simplistic and is made with a single blue line creating a frame around the field. The color palette of this rug is extremely diverse and uses different pastel hues of colors such as orange, green, red, blue, and yellow. This is an extremely rare and unique piece that was most likely woven for a temple of the royal family. This determination can also be made due to its use of the royal gold color in the field and as the finishing tassels of the rug. This unique piece has been preserved.
