Antique Art Deco Sterling Silver and Bakelite Telephone Child's Toy Baby Rattle

About the Item

This antique figural telephone child's baby rattle is presumed to have been made in the United States in circa 1930 in the period Art Deco style. The toy rattle is composed of a molded black Bakelite base, with a sterling silver headset that rests on top and has several small beads inside it, such that it literally rattles when shaken. The base is identical on both sides so there is no front or back per se, and the headset looks the same from both sides. The figural sterling silver headset is clearly marked "Sterling", below a small maker's mark which has not been identified.
