Hand Carved Solid Nutwood Gothic Revival Bible Reading Monk Chair Bookends WW2

About the Item

Rare pair of world war II era, Gothic Art bookend sculptures from the 1940s. If only the rarest Gothic antiques are fit for your collection then this pair of hand carved, bible reading monk bookends should be on your shortlist. Both bookends are carved by the same, Belgian artisan and both out of the most beautiful, solid nutwood. However, what makes these extra special is that the first one was carved in the worst year of WWII (1944) and the second one three years later (in considerably better times, with, again, hope for the future). Maybe the artisan is telling us that the three year time gap made a huge difference in society, but that the clergyman / monk lifestyle, basically did not change much. This all hand carved pair may have originally been owned (or even made) by a monk in a church or monastery. They certainly breath a serene atmosphere. What makes these particular collectables extra rare is that they are hand-carved out of solid nutwood, whereas most Gothic antiques are carved out of oak. We particularly love the church window-like carving in the sides and in the backrests of these large, throne-like chairs. This marvelous pair also has the most beautiful patina and it will look great no matter what you decide to use them for and how you decide to have them on display. If you like these hand-carved works of religious art as much as we do then maybe you should be their next custodian. Especially with perfect packing and worldwide shipping in just 4 to 5 workdays included in our price they certainly are great value for money.   Maximum height x width x depth (larger one): 9.05 x 5.5 x 5.8 inches. Maximum height x width x depth (slightly smaller one): 9 x 5.45 x 5.3 inches. We have a passion for the unique, for quality, for stylish and meaningful and for craftsmanship of years gone by. Your purchases will be extremely well packaged and we look forward to serving you (again).
