19th Century French Two-Tone Silvered and Bronze Catholic Monstrance "Ostensoir"

About the Item

Make an old world statement in your home with this important antique two-tone "Ostensoir," (or monstrance in English). Crafted in France, circa 1860, this impressive religious relic rests on four scrolled feet and features a cross at the pediment over a bronze glowing sun shaped. Additional engraved religious motifs include the wheat, the grape and the vine. The base is decorated with floral and foliage motif. The center of the cross has a small round brass door with glass, which symbolically holds the body of Christ for adoration. It features a relic of Saint Antoine. Known as the patron saint of the poor, of sailors and fishermen, of priests and travelers, a protector and guardian of the mails, and wonder-worker, the story of St. Anthony of Padua is very special. St. Anthony was born in 1195 (13 years after St. This important piece, carved from bronze coated with silver plate, is in excellent condition with rich patinated two-tone finish. A monstrance is the vessel used in Roman Catholic, Old Catholic and Anglican churches to easily view objects of piety, such as the consecrated Eucharist host. Rituals in which the monstrance is used is during the Eucharist Adoration or the Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. Measures: 7.5" W x 3" D x 16.5" H.
