Lee, Harper. “To Kill a Mockingbird”. New York: HarperCollins Publishers Inc., 1995. Signed 35th anniversary hardcover edition. Presented in custom clamshell. This 35th anniversary edition of To Kill a Mockingbird is signed by Harper Lee on the first title page. Published in 1995 with a new cover design by Suzanna Noli to celebrate the original 1960 publishing. The signed novel is housed in a custom made quarter leather black and red clamshell. From Alabama, Harper Lee drew on her own experiences, observations, and personal relationships to write To Kill a Mockingbird and amassed considerable fame for her novel. Through her book, Lee explores the irrationality of adult attitudes on racism of the 1930s. Told in first person of her young main character, Scout, the author details a world unknown to most of her audience through the honest, critical, and humorous eyes of a child. Scout’s father agrees to defend an African American man in court accused of rape despite criticism from the Community. Meanwhile, Scout faces her own challenges as she befriends a recluse named Boo. Through both adventures, Scout is awakened to the principles of racial justice and open-mindedness. Written during the height of the Civil Rights Movement in the US, this novel was an immediate success. It was very quickly assigned as reading in schools and helped to shape the educational perspective of students across the country and for decades to come. Lee won a Pulitzer prize for her instant Classic novel in 1961 and has sold over 30 million copies worldwide. Condition: Overall very good condition. The book is presented with its original black hardcover boards with quarter black cloth and original red and black dust jacket. The author’s initials are blind embossed at the bottom right corner and gold embossed on the spine. Some bumping, streaks, and one dent on the spine, but binding is tight and pages are clean. The signature on the first cover page is dark and legible. Presented with a red and black quarter leather clamshell. Clamshell features gilt embossed red and black ribbed spine. The front shows a recess with an inlaid photograph of Harper Lee.
